25 Rarest Items & Cosmetics in Sea Of Thieves

If you play Sea of Thieves for a while, you’ll realise that it’s no longer about the gold, but about the glory.

There are a lot of rarest items that money can’t buy.

If you want all of these things, you’ll have to rely on your skill, mastery, and sheer determination.

You should also know that some things in Sea of Thieves have been lost to time and can no longer be found.

But you do have a chance, however small, of getting most of the things on this list. It will just be very hard.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s look at some of the game’s rarest items.

25. Ancient Vault Sails

Rarest Items & Cosmetics

Even after hundreds of hours, Treasure Vaults are still a ton of fun.

Or at least I hope you still find them fun – because these sails are going to be a miserable grind if you don’t!

The Ancient Vault Sails are unlocked for purchase after opening your 100th Treasure Vault, and honestly, the sails are pretty cool.

They’re emblazoned with a unique Aztec stone head. Quite the look.

Granted these Sails may not speak much to your crew’s skill. But they do say you’re a master Gold Hoarder, and probably a very experienced one too.

24. Kraken Makeup

Even though the Kraken can be scary, it only appears on the map when there are no other world events happening.

With this in mind, it will take a very long time to deliver 50 pieces of Kraken Meat.

And that’s exactly what you need to do to get the Kraken Makeup and the Hunter Of The Monsterous Beast Title.

Even more, all of those pieces of meat need to be cooked for this to work.

I guess the Hunters Call can’t afford to buy their own stove.

23. Eye Of Reach Of The Ashen Dragon

Out of all of the Ashen Dragon weapons, the Eye Of Reach is my favorite – but you unlock all the other weapons the same way.

And if you’re a methodical pirate, you’re really going to hate this!

Each Ashen Dragon weapon is unlocked by selling all 5 Tomes in a set.

There are 4 sets in total, and they’re all completely random rewards locked inside Ashen Chests.

These are pretty uncommon. But since you can find duplicate Tomes, getting the one you want can take forever.

22. Ghost Lantern

With the Fort of Fortune, it’s a little easier to get this item, as long as you can handle the heat.

But it will be hard no matter what, and it will take a strong, dedicated team to get it.

The Ghost Lantern is a beautiful accessory that really shines at night when you’re going from island to island.

And you have to be a Pirate Legend before you can get your dirty hands on it.

After that, you have to get Athena’s Fortune to Grade 5 20 times.

Just having this flag trailing behind your ship makes your whole crew a target. Athena’s grades rise much more slowly than those of the other emissaries.

You’ll have to work hard, but it will be worth it.

21. Box Of Wondrous Secrets

People say that pirates fought for hundreds of hours around volcanoes and in boiling water, but they never found this rare and highly sought-after treasure.

The rarest treasure in the game is the Box of Wonderful Secrets. And the Devil’s Roar is the only place you can find it.

If this thing shows up at all, it has nothing to do with chance. And there’s no way to improve your chances of finding one (seriously!

There are also no titles or cosmetics that come with finding this item. Which shows just how rare it really is.

So unless you really want to see one for yourself, you might want to leave this one in the stories.

20. Shores Of Gold Curse

You can’t say you’re good at tall tales until your gold-laced pirate.

You can only get the Shores of Gold Curse if you work hard enough to get every commendation on every Tall Tale.

Each Tale has its own set of challenges, but they all have one that requires you to beat the Tall Tale 5 times.

You have to finish the whole story at least 5 times, but the reward is only for the most dedicated players.

19. Silent Barnacle Ship Set

The Silent Barnacle Ship is a battle-scarred monster with torn sails and all kinds of dirt and grime covering the hull.

And if you want this ship, which is pretty special, you’ll have to work for it.

You need the Hoarder of Barnacled Gold Commendation, which you get for delivering 300 Shipwrecked Chests, to open this set.

You can find these in shipwrecks and skeleton ships, but sometimes you can also find them on islands.

The problem is that you might only find one or two at a time. So it will take a long time to send 300.

There’s a good reason you probably haven’t seen this ship before.

18. Legendary Spyglass

If you spot a pirate with this in their hands, just accept that they probably know the Seas better than you know your own house.

The Legendary Spyglass is a very rare piece of equipment locked behind an almighty grind.

You need to deliver 500 Cargo Crates, and they need to be on time and in perfect condition.

You also need to do all of this after you become a Pirate Legend.

Honestly, 100 crates would make this rare enough.

But 500 is borderline insanity!

At least the Spyglass is pretty cool.

17. Dark Adventurers Set

There are some things money can’t buy.

And there are plenty of them on the list.

If you’re interested in something money can buy, this is for you. And don’t worry, that smell of your wallet burning is normal.

To buy items from the Dark Adventurers Set, you need to be a Pirate Legend with lots of gold.

The Dark Adventurers Sails are arguably the best sails in the game, having a small cut at the bottom you can see through. But the entire set costs a colossal 78 MILLION Gold!

For the average player, that’s well over a thousand hours of gameplay!

It’s not too uncommon to see a crew rocking 1 or 2 items from the set… but the whole lot?

Take a picture if you see that.

16. Soulflame Captain Costume

If you want to look like a scary ghost captain, you’re going to have to keep turning into a ghost.

When you clear the Fort of the Damned 25 times, you get the Soulflame Captain Costume along with the rest of the Soulflame Set.

The problem is that most crews haven’t even beaten the Fort of the Damned once!

The most experienced crews on the seas tend to come to this Fort. So you won’t just be fighting a tough army of Skeletons, but also real pirates, who will probably be good.

15. Ghost Pocket Watch

Ancient Black Powder Kegs are by far the most dangerous thing you can have on your ship.

If one goes off, your whole ship will be destroyed and your crew will be burned to ashes.

So, you can decide if this Ghost Pocket Watch is worth it since you have to deliver 50 of these little barrels of death to become a Pirate Legend.

This means that the Ghost Pocket Watch is, of course, very rare.

But I’m fine with using the sun to tell time, thank you.

14. Glorious Sea Dog Flintlock Pistol

One of the most beautiful pistols in the entire game is also one of the rarest.

The Glorious Sea Dog Flintlock Pistol is a gorgeous weapon. But to unlock this instrument of death you’ll need the Sharpshooting Sea Dog Commendation, awarded for getting 200 kills with a pistol in the Arena.

All of the Glorious Sea Dog weapons are unlocked like this.

But the Pistol can be tricky to confirm kills with – hence why it makes the list above so many others.

13. Triumphant Sea Dog Hat

Don’t think just a few weapon skins are locked inside the Arena.

The next 3 cosmetics on this list are also only available from this mode, and they’re so tough to get that there are very few items rarer on the seas.

The Triumphant Sea Dog Hat is a stunning full-rimmed blue hat – but very few players actually have it. And for mostly one reason:

To get it, you need 100 wins in the Arena. And you have to be wearing at least 5 pieces of Glorious Sea Dog clothing while you do it.

The Arena feels like a completely different game to Adventure mode at times.

So you’ll need to be a deadly pirate to even have a shot at this hat.

12. Triumphant Sea Dog Figurehead

It’s only fitting that you can decorate your ship with rewards from the Arena.

If you see a ship rocking this on the front, you may want to turn tail and flee – if you don’t want to get destroyed on sight!

The Triumphant Sea Dog Figurehead is awarded alongside the Sea Dog Captain Commendation for 100 Arena wins, specifically with your ship decorated in Glorious Sea Dog cosmetics.

Much like the hat, this Figurehead is reserved for the best of the best in the Arena.

And it’s simply out of reach for most crews

11. Legendary Cutlass

You may think that simply being a Pirate Legend will give you access to ‘Legendary’ weapons.

But that title really is just the beginning.

To unlock this Legendary Cutlass, you need to be a Pirate Legend, and get a whopping 240 wins in the Arena!

Most players have not even played half of that amount, let alone won them!

You unlock the other weapons too upon achieving this incredible feat – but oh boy, that really is a pretty blade.

10. Silver Blade Banjo

You can get most of the cosmetics on this list so far if you have the skill, the gold, and are willing to get your feet wet.

This one, though, needs something else:

Time.

If you play Sea of Thieves on the Insider Build, you can get the Silver Blade cosmetics.

But you have to play the Silver Blade Banjo for an hour every week for 108 weeks.

Yes, more than 2 years!

This banjo is beautiful, that much is clear. But it takes a huge amount of time, and there’s no way to make it go faster.

09. Alabaster Wildcat

Don’t think pets can escape this list.

Because sadly, this kitty is so rare that I don’t think many of us will ever see one.

The Alabaster Wildcat isn’t available from the Pirate Emporium like the rest of the pets. So technically there is a pet you can get without spending Ancient Coins – but the bad news is you need to play on the Insider build at least an hour a week for 111 weeks to unlock it…

It’s a good thing I’m more of a parrot person I guess because this is one majestic-looking cat.

08. Golden Hour Sails

These sails are really cool.

But unless you’re a really good artist, you probably won’t ever have them.

The Golden Hour Sails are a prize for winning an official Sea of Thieves Twitter or Instagram #SoTShot contest.

So keep your Spyglass on Social Media and hope for the best.

07. Ferryman Set

If you don’t want to pay a lot of real money, don’t bother with this one.

The Ferryman Set is, without a doubt, a great set of clothes, accessories, and weapons. But you can only get it with a code that comes with a limited edition Sea of Thieves Xbox One controller (which looks beautiful, by the way!)

You should know that the controller and code can be sold for hundreds of dollars if you find one in a store.

06. Golden Banana Sails

I thought about putting these on the list, but they can’t be gotten.

But at the time this was written, there were more people playing Sea of Thieves than ever before. Maybe something like this will be available again in the future.

The Banana Sails are the rarest pieces of clothing in the game. Only 1 crew has them. Even the people who made them don’t have them!

During the games’ launch week, the sails were given out at an event called “The Quest for the Golden Bananas.”

05. Sailor Set

In Sea of Thieves, the default set of cosmetics is the Sailor Set. Every Pirate starts out with a Sailor version of every Tool, Weapon, and Ship part, as well as a lot of Clothing and Vanity Items.

Most of the equipment and weapons used by Sailors are made of unfinished wood and metal, so they all have a rough, white and brown look. Players also start with a few pieces of underwear, hairstyles, beards, and tattoos.

The Sailor set is basically what makes Sea of Thieves a unique game, since every player starts with almost every item in the game and can only buy cosmetic upgrades.

This makes sure that everyone who plays Sea of Thieves is at the same level. The only parts of the Sailor Set that you have to buy separately are the prosthetics and the different sails for the ship that only come in one colour.

04. Parrot Set

The Parrot Set is a Cosmetic Set with a parrot motif and a colour palette of blue, green, and gold.

As the name suggests, the items are adorned with features that strongly mimic characteristics of a parrot such as a beak, claws, and vibrant plumage.

The Hair and Beard of the Parrot Set are available for purchase for Pirate Legends from the Shopkeeper of Athena’s Fortune Hideout.

This set has 2 other colour variants: the Nightshine Parrot Set (black, green, blue, and silver), and the Sunshine Parrot Set (red, blue, gold, and bronze).

03. Admiral Set

Admiral Set Items are for Pirates who like a more proper and mercantile demeanour, mimicking that of the historical Admirals of the British Empire.

The Admiral look is the look of the Merchant Alliance and as such, all Admiral items used to only be purchasable from Outposts in The Shores of Plenty Region.

As of the Anniversary Update, all Admiral Item variants can be purchased at all Shops. Admiral items feature a silvery white, navy blue and dark red colour scheme.

The Admiral Insignia is a White Trident. The Admiral Ship Set was finally completed with the Lost Treasures Content Update that added the Admiral Flag into the game.

Admiral-themed Pet Outfits and Emotes can be purchased from the Pirate Emporium for Ancient Coins.

02. Royal Sovereign Set

Items from the Royal Sovereign Set are for Pirates who, like the Spanish Conquistadors, want to show off how rich they are.

The Gold Hoarders wear the Sovereign look, so all Sovereign items could only be bought from Outposts in The Ancient Isles Region.

Since the Anniversary Update, all of the different kinds of Sovereign Items can be bought at any Outpost Shop. Items in the Royal Sovereign Set are made of fine materials and come in Green, White, and Gold.

Most of the decorations on Sovereign ships, equipment, and weapons are gold-plated. The sign of the Royal Sovereign is a Golden Lion.

The Royal Sovereign Ship Set was finished with the Lost Treasures Content Update, which added the Flag, Figurehead, Wheel, Cannons, and Capstan.

01. Merrick’s Set

Merrick’s Set is a cosmetic set that you can get as a seasonal reward. It is based on Merrick, who hunts Megalodons.

The Tankard is from Season 5, while the Cutlass and Jacket are from Season 7.
