How To Complete A Sea Fort in Sea Of Thieves

Sea of Thieves has started a new season, and with it comes a new thing for you and your crew to do.

You can now go to Sea Fort, which are like the Skeleton Forts that are all over the world. They are full of treasure and dangerous, sword-slashing, gun-toting ghosts.

So, what are these Sea Forts all about? How do you clean them out and get all the treasure that’s hidden in their crevices and nooks?

Well, we’ll tell you everything we know about Sea Forts so that you can get the most ghostly gold from them.

How To Complete A Sea Fort Encounter

How To Complete A Sea Fort in Sea Of Thieves

As of right now, there are 6 Sea Forts. Two are in the Ancient Isles, two are in the Shores of Plenty, and two are in the Wilds.

So far, this is the full list:

  • Ancient Gold Fortress
  • Old Brinestone Fortress
  • Imperial Crown Fortress
  • Royal Crest Fortress
  • Mercy’s End Fortress
  • Traitor’s Fate Fortress

Sea Forts are different from Skeleton Forts in that they don’t need a world event to be active. When you sail to a Sea Fort, there will always be enemies to fight and treasure to steal, unless another crew gets there first.

As soon as you get to a Sea Fort, many cannons will start firing at you. Their aim is usually pretty bad, but just in case, you should be ready to fix your ship’s hull and bail out some water.

When you get to the fort, hordes of ghosts will attack you. You can get rid of them by shooting them with a Blunderbuss or cutting them with your sword.

When you kill them, there’s a good chance they’ll drop ammo pouches, so you shouldn’t have any trouble keeping your guns loaded.

You’ll have to fight through several waves of ghosts before the Sea Fort boss, Captain Of The Fortress, shows up.

From what we can tell, there doesn’t seem to be much difference between a regular phantom and the Captain, other than the fact that the Captain has more health and is slightly stronger.

Keep shooting at it or hitting it with your sword, and you should eventually beat it and hear the music that means you’ve taken the fort.

What To Do With A Sea Fort

When you defeat the Captain of the Fortress, he should drop the Fortress Treasury Key, which you can use to open the treasury full of ghostly treasures.

Inside, you should find multiple Chests Of The Damned, Skulls Of The Damned, and Ashes Of The Damned that you can sell to their corresponding trading companies.

You can also pick up piles of gold and different kinds of chests, skulls, crates, and artefacts.

On the top floor of these Sea Forts, in addition to the treasury, there will be a store room with more treasures that can only be opened with the Fortress Store Room Key. To find this, you have to look around the fort until you find it.

There will be a lot of hidden cupboards, chests of drawers, and other places you can open that may have hidden treasures or gold pouches.

The key to the Store Room will be in one of these or on a table. We even saw it sitting on the ground once.

Usually, there is a Store Room Key hidden somewhere in each Sea Fort. Find it and open the storeroom to get even more loot.

You’ll also see that there’s a locked prison cell near the treasury. It will tell you that to open it, you need the Prison Cell Key, but we haven’t been able to find that key at any of the Sea Forts yet.

Later this season, a pirate legend voyage will be added to Sea of Thieves. We think that this voyage may have something to do with these jail cells. For now, it doesn’t look like there’s a way in.

After you’ve killed all the ghosts and taken all the treasure, your crew can use Sea Forts as a temporary home base.

Here, you can cook multiple pieces of meat on the grill, fill your tankards with grog, fire at other ships with the fort’s cannons, sleep in one of the beds, and use the map on the wall.

There are also a number of barrels that are completely full of food, cannonballs, and wood. It’s a good idea to have a storage crate on hand so you can fill it with everything the Sea Fort has to offer.

Lastly, as with most things you can do in Sea of Thieves, you can get praise for doing certain things. Here is a list of all the commendations you can get for these Sea Forts:
