Pirate Legend is a milestone Title that gives players extra benefits in Sea of Thieves once they get it.
Pirate Legend is the coveted prime status in Sea of Thieves, positioned as the ultimate goal for pirates.
Implemented as the “end-game” for any eager player, earning this prestige unlocks access to exclusive content to stand out on the seas.
The title is given to players who have reached level 50 in three different Trading Companies and bought the level 50 promotions for each of those Trading Companies.
Then, players must talk to the Mysterious Stranger, who will give them the Title, the Legendary Set of clothes, and the Shanty of Legends, which is used to get to the Athena’s Fortune Hideout.
You’ve fought long and hard to prove your worth and battled the odds all across the Sea of Thieves. You’re a true Pirate Legend and no mistake!

How to become a Pirate Legend in Sea of Thieves
Becoming a Pirate Legend requires players to hit the maximum reputation level across all three of the game’s trading companies.
Accessible by pressing the “Menu” button while in-game, reputation with the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls and Merchant Alliance must reach level 50.
As existing Sea of Thieves players will know, increasing your level with each of these factions requires redemption of treasure.
Whether through trading company voyages or randomly found loot, you’ll need to build these three important figures.
After hitting level 50 across all three factions, players should return to the tavern at any of the game’s outposts. When inside, access to an underground passage can be opened, leading to the Pirate Legend hideout.
Perks
Title and Clothes
A Player Pirate will acquire the Pirate Legend Title and all the Legendary Set Clothes and Vanity items for free to equip at the Clothing Chest and Vanity Chest.
Athena’s Fortune Hideout
The main benefit of a Pirate Legend is that you can use it to get to Athena’s Fortune Hideout. Legends can talk to the Mysterious Stranger to find out how well-known they are.
He will teach you the Shanty of Legends, which can only be played with instruments on the ground near the stairs in the middle of the Tavern. This will open a way to the Hideout.
At the hideout, Pirate Legends can buy Legendary Athena’s Fortune Voyages or the Athena’s Fortune Emissary Flag, which gives them access to high-value Treasure items and better gains.
Pirates can also talk to the Shopkeepers to unlock and buy other Legendary Sets, Ghost Sets, Dark Adventurers Sets, or other cosmetic items.
Legendary Commendations and Titles
Many of Athena’s Fortune’s Commendations and Titles become available once a player has earned the Pirate Legend Title and done certain things at The Sea of Thieves.
These things don’t have to do with being a Pirate Legend. Most of these Commendations have five levels, and some of them let you buy Legendary or Ghost items or get a Title with the same name from the Vanity Chest.
Legendary Pet Outfits
Pet owners can buy Pirate Legend Pet Outfits and Ghost Pet Outfits at the Pirate Emporium.
The Pirate Legend Outfits need the player to be a Pirate Legend, while the Ghost Outfits need the player to be Rank 20 with Athena’s Fortune.
Legendary Mercenary Voyages
Usually, every major Content Update brings along with it a handful of Mercenary Voyages, one is always locked for Pirate Legends.
These Legendary Mercenary Voyages always have greater rewards and challenges than the regular versions of the Voyages.
Heart of Fire introduced a permanent Mercenary Voyage titled Athena’s Run of Thieves’ Haven, which is available for Pirate Legends.
Purchase Level 50 Promotions
After reaching level 50 in three different Trading Companies, you will need to purchase their corresponding Level 50 Promotions.
Promotions are sold by the representative of each Trading Company, typically available for purchase each time you increase their respective level by increments of five or ten.
Go to each Trading Company representative (found at any Outpost), and purchase their level 50 Promotions.
This will unlock several items available for purchase at these NPCs, but more importantly, it’s essential in your quest to achieve the Pirate Legend title.
