Aside from cosmetic and role-playing purposes, the marriage system in Final Fantasy XIV provides a practical item (the Eternity Ring) that can’t be obtained elsewhere.
This ring has the capacity to transport you to your spouse’s side at any given time.
And if you’re interested in recreating the classic ball and chain in Eorzea, you can.
But, really, what’s the point here?
Obviously, your point of view matters. Which would you prefer: a character that is free to roam the world or one who returns home to the same catgirl/man every evening?
If you want to get married, it’s entirely up to you.
A transaction must be made in order for the procedure to get started.
For the most part, I think Eternal Bonding in XIV is merely for show.
To add to the enjoyment, it’s merely there to brighten your day (or cringe, depending on which ceremony you choose).
In-game booking and invitations to friends are available after completing a short questline where you prepare for the event.
However, you don’t leave the ceremony with anything.
All three plans (regular, gold, and platinum) come with a wide range of cosmetic goods.
If you’ve splashed the cash, you can ride into the sunset in style on a two-person mount.
What Do I Get From The Ceremony Of Eternal Bonding?
There are three options for couples hoping to achieve that elusive state of marital bliss.
There is no charge for the Standard Plan, which includes everything you need to get married.
There are emotes, a wedding cake, wedding attire, and a few basic ceremony options included in this package.
Everything in the Standard Plan is included in the $20 (ten dollars per player) Gold Plan, as does the Ceremony Chocobo mount.
Allows for greater flexibility in the ceremony itself, such as changing lighting and carpeting.
In exchange for an additional $20 per player (a total of $40), you will receive all of the aforementioned perks (including the Chocobo mount) in addition to a slew of luxurious apparel and ceremony personalization options.
That seems a tad excessive to me.
It’s not everyone’s cup of tea to have a plethora of options.
It doesn’t matter which of the three options you choose; you’ll still get what is, in my opinion, the most helpful part of the event.
Eternity Rings will be given to both players, each with a grotesquely large stone.
Using this item will transport you to your wife/husband, even if you only have basic stats.
No Aetheryte fees and right next to them!
You can use this perk if you play with this individual on a frequent basis (which I think you would if you cared enough to get married).
However, there are some drawbacks.
Unlocked locations cannot be accessed using this tool. It is therefore necessary if you wish to travel beyond A Realm Reborn, to gather all of the aether currents in that area.
Basically, if you haven’t unlocked flight in a zone, you can’t teleport there using the Eternity Ring.
I Want To Get Married! How Do I Start?
It isn’t difficult at all.
This page is all you need to get started after selecting one of the three available plans.
You can’t mix and match because you both have to choose the same plan.
An accessory will arrive in-game once you’ve decided on a plan and purchased it, and this will begin the questline for you.
To get there, you’ll need to take a few steps.
Remember, this is Final Fantasy, which means there will be a tonne of speech to get through.
In the future, you’ll be able to schedule and prepare your wedding ceremony using the various options available and then invite your family and friends.
It’s simply a matter of waiting for the big day to arrive.
The Ceremony of Eternal Bonding, in my opinion, is overly sentimental.
It’s not at all a formal affair.
Be prepared for some annoyingly saccharine scenes, even if you pay for it. I’m not sure how much better it gets.
There is no other way of saying, “I got married by Moogles,” is there?
Can You Get Divorced Too?
You must be a hoot at get-togethers.
Yes, your not-so-Eternal Bond can be undone if things go south and the enchantment disappears.
It can be done in advance or after the ceremony, at your convenience.
If you’re going to the ceremony, you’ll need to wear a wristlet.
After that, you’ll need to bring the Eternity Ring with you.
Bring your supplies to the East Shroud’s Sanctum of the Twelve.
The white-robed NPC there will accept your accessory in exchange for an annulment of your marriage contract, allowing you to start over with a new partner or go to Limsa Lominsa and enjoy life as a single person.
However, keep in mind that this method will only annul the marriage for you.
You can’t make the other player give up their Eternity Ring if they’re having trouble moving on.
If they desire, they can still use it to teleport to your location.
Final Fantasy XIV does not support restraining orders, in case you were wondering. You could, however, come up with something a little nicer.
