The cottagecore style is popular among young people who live in cities and want to get out of their concrete cages and live like people did in medieval Europe, which was full of nature.
A cottagecore fan’s dream is to live in a small cabin in the woods where everything is made by hand.
Even though most people don’t want to leave their towns in real life, there’s nothing stopping you from doing so in Skyrim.
Even in the basic version of Skyrim, you can be a hermit who takes care of himself, but that’s not enough to meet the cottagecore fantasy. It doesn’t have enough beauty, magic, or home-baked jams and bread.
Modders have been making Skyrim look nicer and adding to its gameplay for more than a decade, and there are a lot of add-ons that will get you closer to the cottagecore dream.
12. Whiterun Cottage
This mod introduces a small player home to the city of Whiterun in the game. The home is designed to have a cozy and humble atmosphere, resembling a compact loft.
It features one open space that includes all the essential crafting utilities for the player, allowing easy access to crafting activities.
Additionally, the mod includes a basement area with display options for showcasing items.
The home comes with named and custom containers, offering convenient sorting capabilities for organizing belongings.

What better way to start a list about cottagecore than with a real cottage?
The Vandfald Cottage by Thay S is a great place to live for anyone who wants to leave the busy center of the hold and live on their own terms.
This cozy house is near the stone bridge in Riverwood.
It is right next to a cute little stream where you can get water to make your morning coffee, wash your clothes, etc.
This player-made house has every making station except for smithing, enough space to show off all of your trinkets, and a room for up to four adopted children.
9. A Cat’s Life
Nothing will improve your cottage life and make it more Instagram-able than a loving house cat.
Darkfox127’s adorable mod introduces a wealth of small felines who’ll protect your grain storage from mice and Skeevers while also providing emotional support after a hard day of heroism.
You’ll find these cats all around Skyrim, making everyone’s lives better – and you’ll be able to adopt your own house cat to keep you company at stores in Whiterun and Riften.
This mod also features a variety of cat items and accessories like food bowls, collars, and the like.
They also have realistic needs, so make sure you keep their bowls filled with water and some minced fish.
8. Farm Animals & Co. Extended
If cats are too basic for you, consider GG77’s Farm Animals & Co.
This mod will supercharge your homesteading experience by introducing numerous new animal species throughout Skyrim.
You’ll find them roaming farms, windmills, towns, villages, and around most bodies of water like lakes and rivers.
These animals include turkeys, hens, swans, roosters, ducks, geese, cows, sheep… and the list goes on.
It’s a total of 131 all-new animals that’ll make your cottagecore life feel rich and authentic.
7. Complete Alchemy & Cooking Overhaul
Most of the cottagecore content on YouTube involves making something from scratch – whether it’s delicious tea, a traditional cake, or some jam made out of freshly picked forest berries.
For a similar experience in Skyrim, I’d recommend Kryptopyr’s Complete Alchemy & Cooking overhaul, which offers a well-balanced and more in-depth experience in both disciplines.
Not only will you be able to make a ton of new and more valuable potions and tonics, but over 100 all-new food items with custom graphics.

Putting on Daedric Armor makes it hard to live a simple life. All the animals will run away from you!
Also, why do you need a full plate to pick morels in the bush or take care of your garden?
The Apachii Divine Elegance Store has a lot more to offer than just fancy clothes for Skyrim.
This huge collection has clothes for any event, from a ball at the Jarl’s longhouse to a quiet afternoon with Lydia and some cookies, herbal tea, and war stories.
If you really want to look like a cottagecore trendsetter, you can combine this with the Cloaks of Skyrim mod and the scarves and mufflers from Keeping Warm.
5. White Blossom Cottage Reborn
Medieval fantasy themes are a big part of the cottagecore style.
It says that living on your own in nature is like living in a fairy story.
With Lele’s White Blossom Cottage, you can live like you’re in a fairy tale.
This cottage is a short walk south of Riverwood and is great for a mage or alchemist who loves nature. The round shape of the door makes me think of The Shire from Lord of the Rings, which is the quintessential cottage-style place.
There are many beautiful little features inside and outside the house, like magic lights, drawings by herbalists, and ivy growing on the walls.
It makes it hard to tell where the house ends and the forest begins.
4. Skyrim Flora Overhaul
As was already said, nature is an important part of the cottagecore style.
The Skyrim Flora Overhaul by Vurt completely changes the forests and fields in this northern area by adding 18 new tree types, more than 180 new plant textures, and more than 65 new grass and flower models.
Aside from adding more types of trees, SFO changes Skyrim’s woods by making the trees look older and much taller.
With SFO, you can really get lost in the woods, just like in the Disney movie “Into the Woods.”
3. Verdosebrom Regions
Living in a cottage-style way doesn’t end when you leave your land.
If you want the real cottagecore experience, every trip to town for supplies or long trip to a faraway city must be a magical journey of natural discovery.
By giving each biome its own style, Verdorsebrom Regions makes your trips more interesting and engaging. The tundra, the coast, and the forests all have unique plants that look like their real-life counterparts. All of these plants are of a very good quality.
2. Mari’s Flora
You can’t go wrong with Mari’s Flora if you’re the kind of person who goes out of their way to make the game look as real and beautiful as possible.
This HD texture pack changes the way Skyrim’s plants look, making your screenshots look like they were taken by National Geographic.
With it, the leaves and flowers of every plant look just like they do in real life.
You’ll be amazed at how real the frost looks on the leaves and berries of trees and bushes in snowy areas, and you’ll feel a lot more at home in your house.
1. Pinewood Cottage
We’ll end the list with a great house, just like we did at the beginning.
The Pinewood Cottage is near the Riverwood waterfalls, downstream from the town. Its owner has a great view of the land below, including the city of Whiterun.
This home is self-sufficient and looks beautiful. It has a hot bath, crafting stations for alchemists and enchanters, a lot of room to cook, and a working windmill.
This house is great for cottagecore fans because there are so many flowers and other plants growing around it, and the inside is almost too cozy.
