Trident of Dark Tides Explained

The Trident of Dark Tides is a weapon that shoots bubbles of energy at enemies to hurt them and push them back.

It is not equipped at an Armory but can be found in the world.

Usage of Trident of Dark Tides

There are 30 charges on the Trident of Dark Tides. As these charges run out, the blue crystals will start to lose their brightness and the trident will start to turn grey. When the trident runs out of power, it falls apart into dust.

By holding down the Primary Use key, you can start to charge the projectile. When you hold Secondary Use, the staff will start to aim without charging a projectile.

At the end, there is a short pause before a small bubble forms. If you keep holding the key, the bubble will get bigger and bigger until it’s a big one. The slower a projectile moves, the bigger it is.

You can fire the projectile at any time by letting go of the button, but you can stop it from firing without using any charges if you drop the trident.

When the projectile hits the ground, an enemy creature, or an enemy player, it goes off. Depending on the size of the bubble, firing it also uses up a certain number of charges.

  • Small bubble: 1 charge dealing 30 damage, with little to no blast radius.
  • Medium bubble: 2 charges dealing 60 damage in a medium radius.
  • Large bubble: 3 charges dealing 90 damage in a large radius.

A hidden damage multiplier of around 2,5 is applied against creatures, often allowing one shots against weaker enemies. (90 damage * 2,5 = 225 damage.)

If the trident only has 1 or 2 charges remaining, the bubble will never grow to a medium or large version respectively.

Where to find Trident ofDark Tides?

The Trident of Dark Tides can be found by chance in various activities:

  • Beached above or below the shorelines of Islands.
  • Dropped after defeating sea threats (Megalodon, Kraken, or Skeleton Ship).
  • Found in Shipwrecks.
  • Found among Barrels of Plenty on the seas.
  • Found in Skeleton Fort Vaults.
  • Found during certain Tall Tales. (This is not random)
  • Dropped by a Siren Leader upon defeat.
  • Several can be found inside Siren Treasuries

Can you sell the Trident of Dark Tides?

To put it simply: no, you cannot sell the Trident of Dark Tides to any vendor, for either gold or reputation in Sea of Thieves.

The confusion is understandable, since even other found weapons like the Ashen Winds Skull can usually be traded in for a decent chunk of change and/or social credit. However, the Trident of Dark Tides just doesn’t allow for that.
