FFXIV: What is a Limited Job?

In FFXIV, “Limited Jobs” are playable jobs that have few rules and are meant for casual play.

At the moment, there is only one: the Blue Mage, who steals spells.

Blue Mage seems to be just the first of a number of planned Limited Jobs, but we haven’t heard much about them in a while (as of this writing).

So, this article will take a lot of time talking about the Blue Mage job, including how to get it, why you should play it, and what you can’t do with it.

Blue Mage, and probably all future limited jobs, are very focused on playing by yourself.

What Is The Blue Mage Job?

In Patch 4.5, the Blue Mage was added.

That’s right in the middle of the content gap between Stormblood and Shadowbringers, and it’s likely meant to keep people interested in XIV until the next expansion comes out.

Blue Mages have been a part of Final Fantasy for a long time, and fans will be happy that they look the same in XIV.

Blue Mages use canes and dress like they’re at a fancy masquerade ball.

They look very different from many other classes.

They copy the spells of monsters and have a special ability in the game that lets them do this.

To play Blue Mage, you have to go out into the world and hunt monsters to find out what they know.

We’ll explain how to do that in more detail.

The level cap for blue mages is also 70, which is ten levels lower than the level cap for everything else.

It is used only to go up to level 50, but patches have made it go higher, adding new spells and quests along the way.

After Endwalker has been out for a while, the level cap might go up to 80, but don’t get your hopes up.

But you can’t use this job for endgame content or serious multiplayer activities.

It can, however, be a really fun break from the usual routine of story grinding and playing Duty Roulette.

Blue Mage is a good choice if you’re tired of your current job and want to try something new.

How Do You Unlock The Blue Mage Limited Job?

Limited Job

The Blue Mage job in FFXIV has nothing to do with any other jobs.

You don’t have to reach a certain level in a certain job before you can unlock it.

Blue Mage is yours once you’ve reached level 50 in any Disciple of War or Magic class or job and finished the Realm Reborn Main Scenario Quest.

Just go to the Aetheryte Plaza in Limsa Lominsa, where the “Out of the Blue” quest is waiting for you.

When you finish this simple quest, you’ll get the Blue Mage soul crystal.

After that, you can switch in and out of the job whenever you want.

As you level up as a Blue Mage, you can also do your own set of class quests and take part in an event called The Masked Carnivale.

How Do You Unlock Spells As A Blue Mage?

Blue Mages don’t get better at using their skills as they gain levels.

To learn their spells, you have to go out into the world and see a monster using certain moves against you in battle.

When the monster dies, you have a chance of learning the spell, point at point you can set it as an action and use it yourself.

There are a lot of resources out there that can point you in the right direction.

Still, we can talk about some basics here.

Spells are ranked on how hard they are to learn from 1 to 5.

The main goal is to watch the monster cast the spell you want.

You have a chance to learn that spell when it dies.

The 1–5 ranking affects how likely that chance is: the higher the rank, the harder it is to learn.

You don’t even have to be hit by the spell to learn it.

So if you’re at a party with friends and the spell targets one of them, you still have a chance to learn it.

You just have to be there when the vote is taken.

But if you’re hunting monsters in the overworld and someone who is not in your party has already tagged the target, you won’t be able to take part.

If the skill drops while you’re with other Blue Mages, you’ll all learn it.

Basically, there’s no way that your friend will learn the skill while you don’t.

Though you won’t learn the spell if you’re dead when the monster is killed, a good rule of thumb is to make sure all Blue Mages are still alive before going in for the kill.

What Can’t You Do With A Limited Job?

Blue Mage can’t do a lot of important things in the game.

You won’t be able to do Main Scenario Quests, Duty Roulettes, Deep Dungeons, or PvP if you’re playing a Limited Job.

You can go into dungeons or trials with pre-made groups or with groups that are too small.

So Blue Mage is something fun to do on the side, but it is not a full-time job.
