Disciples of the Hand or Land can gain access to new equipment called Skysteel Tools.
For the most part, they’re akin to the combat classes’ relic weapons, with the added benefit of providing stat boosts to your chosen profession.
Who says that the Disciples of War and Magic are the only ones who get to enjoy all of the perks?
You have every right to own a storied frying pan.
As with obtaining your Resistance Weapon, getting started with your Skysteel Tools is a piece of cake.
It’s a different story when it comes to upgrading it.
That’s going to take a lot of time and effort.
There is no need to fret at this time.
Let’s get the easy part out of the way first, and then we can focus on the more time-consuming details.
How Do I Get My Skysteel Tools?
Once you have a Disciple of the Hand or Land at level 80 and access to The Firmament, you’ll be able to use it to your advantage.
Approach the entrance to The Firmament at The Foundation in Ishgard using your level 80 crafter/gatherer.
Pick up the “Mislaid Plans” quest to receive your very own Skysteel Tool after a substantial amount of dialogue.
At item level 440, these tools are available.
If you work hard enough, you can bring this gear up to par with the best in the game.
I Have Multiple Crafters/Gatherers, Can I Have Multiple Tools?
You certainly can.
It’s as simple as paying a fee to get more Skysteel Tools.
The first one is free, but you’ll have to pay 80,000 gil to Denys in Ishgard’s Skysteel Manufactory after completing “Mislaid Plans” if you want more.
In the case of new crafters and gatherers who have just reached level 80, this is an excellent way to boost their stats and prepare for endgame crafting.
It’s not going to remove all of your out-of-date gear.
However, it will be extremely beneficial.
How Do I Upgrade My Skysteel Tools?
Crafters and gatherers go about their business in very different ways.
With your Skysteel Tool, you’ll be creating “Oddly Specific” items of the highest quality.
The tool can be upgraded by bringing in these Oddly Specific items to Denys.
To purchase the Oddly Specific items, you must purchase an Oddly Specific material from a Scrip Exchange vendor.
So you’ll have to fork over some Scrips and put in some effort, but the rewards are well worth it (eventually).
In order to gather Oddly Specific items, gatherers must go out into the world and repeat the process.
As you’ll be required to consistently gather an enormous number of High Quality and hidden items, it can feel like a lot more work.
At the very least, no Yellow Scrips are required.
In addition, your Skysteel Tool is not required to gather the materials.
So if you have a better option at the time, feel free to take advantage of it.
Fishers, as always, are the outcasts.
You’ll need to buy Denys’ “Signature Skyballs” if you want to upgrade your Skysteel Fishing Rod.
Only with this bait can you hope to land the desired catch.
To get your rod to the next level, you’ll need a total of forty High Quality catches.
There’s still a lot more to do before the upgrade is complete.
Additionally, you’ll need a few hours of your time to complete this task, but it’ll be worth it in the long run because you’ll have one of the best gear options in the game at the moment.
It’s best to keep going with the quests, gather/craft the materials, and find a good podcast or TV show to keep your mind occupied.
Are Skysteel Tools Worth All The Trouble?
Absolutely, for anyone who is more than just a casual crafter or collector.
These will rise to the top of the game’s toolkit.
Not only that, but they’ll stick with you long after Endwalker is released.
You’ll have them for a long time if you give them your full attention.
Endwalker crafting and gathering can begin as soon as you reach level 90, and these tools can help you get the most out of the new level cap.
Is there a lot of work involved in making them?
Absolutely.
Is the effort worth it?
Completely.
Until the next batch release, whenever that may be, it’s still worth finishing these tools.
Breaking down a task like this into smaller, more manageable chunks helps me get through long grinds, achievement hunts, or long-term leveling sessions.
You can avoid burnout by dedicating a small amount of your free time to it each time you play.
After a long day of grinding, it’s easy to lose sight of how much fun Final Fantasy XIV can be.
Consider going to the Gold Saucer instead.
Or you can meet new people in Limsa Lominsa (well, actually, be careful with that one).
There is no need to AFK for more than 30 minutes at a time.
