FFXIV: Resistance Weapons Guide

In Final Fantasy 14, Relic Weapons are a standard, and the Shadowbringers expansion has perpetuated this pattern with Resistance Weapons.

Until the advent of the Endwalker, these glistening status symbols were the most powerful weaponry in the game.

However, crafting relic weapons has never been about the stats, right?

If you’re willing to put in the work, these guys are certainly worth it.

If this is your first time making a Relic Weapon in Final Fantasy 14, you have nothing to worry about.

The Resistance Weapon is one of the more straightforward relic weapons to manufacture, despite its intimidating appearance.

Let’s examine each stage in the questline, the supplies you’ll need to collect, and the optimal methods for doing so.

Before You Start

The storyline of the Resistance Weapon questline parallels that of the Save the Queen: Blade of Gunnhildr questline.

In order to construct a Resistance Weapon, you must complete weapon-related tasks and Bozjan Resistance plot quests, as well as increase your Resistance Rank on the Bozjan Southern Front and in Zadnor.

This article will focus on the repetitive Resistance Weapon upgrade tasks that need you to collect and turn in materials.

You will be required to do story quests in the interim, but only once.

Alongside each quest phase, the prerequisite tale quests that must be completed will be displayed.

In addition, the following quests must be completed before you can begin the first quest in the questline.

Save the Queen: Blade of Gunnhildr Questline Pre-requisites

  1. Complete the Main Scenario Quest ‘Shadowbringers’
  2. Complete the quest ‘The City of Lost Angels’

Once you have met the prerequisites, you can begin the Save the Queen questline by picking up the quest ‘Hail to the Queen’ from Keiten in Kugane (x:12.2, y:12.3).

Complete the “Resistance is (Not) Futile” Quest

  1. Pre-requisites:
    • Complete the quest ‘Hail to the Queen’
    • Complete the quest ‘Path to the Past’
    • Complete the quest ‘The Bozja Incident’
    • Complete the quest ‘Fire in the Forge’
  2. NPC Location:
    • Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)

While technically not the first mission in the Resistance Weapon questline, this is where you will begin again if you decide to create a second Resistance Weapon.

This is also the first stage that requires you to gather something.

Completing this quest will net you the base Resistance Weapon for your profession.

This is a repeated variation of ‘Fire in the Forge,’ the quest you just completed.

To complete these tasks, you must bring Gerolt in Gangos four Thavnairian Scalepowder.

Auriana in Mor Dhona sells this item for 250 Tomestones of Poetics each, for a total of 1,000 Poetics required to complete this quest.

Reward:

  1. Resistance Weapon (iLvl. 485)

Complete the Quest ‘For Want of a Memory’

  1. Pre-requisites:
    • Complete the quest ‘Vows of Virtue, Deeds of Cruelty’
    • Complete the quest ‘Where Eagles Nest’
    • Complete the quest ‘A Sober Proposal’
  2. NPC Location:
    • Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)

You must collect a total of 60 Memories of the Dying for this task.

You need 20 Tortured, Sorrowful, and Harrowing Memories of the Dying.

Obtainable by performing FATEs in the following Heavensward zones.

MemoryLocation
Tortured Memory of the DyingSea of Clouds, Coerthas Western Highlands
Sorrowful Memory of the DyingDravanian Forelands, Churning Mists
Harrowing Memory of the DyingAzys Lla, Dravanian Hinterlands

In addition, you will have a chance to obtain any of these Memories of the Dying by completing Skirmishes and Crucial Engagements on the Southern Front of Bozjan.

Each Memory drops in a distinct region of the Bozjan Southern Front: Tortured in the south, Sorrowful in the center, and Harrowing in the north.

The memory of the Dying has a 100% chance to drop from Heavensward FATEs, whereas the drop rate here is significantly lower.

Farming Heavensward FATEs is therefore the recommended strategy for acquiring these memories.

Rewards:

  1. Augmented Resistance Weapon (iLvl. 500)

Complete the Quest ‘The Will to Resist’

  1. NPC Location:
    • Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)

You must collect six Bitter Memories of the Dying for this mission.

These can be acquired through the following means:

  1. Complete any Lv. 60 Dungeon
  2. Complete Duty Roulette: Leveling (once per day)
  3. Skirmishes and Critical Engagements in the Bozjan Southern Front (not guaranteed to drop)

Again, the greatest location to collect these is outside of Bozja.

We recommend completing Leveling Roulette, then grinding a handful of Lv. 60 Dungeons to complete this step quickly.

Reward:

  1. Resistance Weapon Recollection (iLvl. 500)

Complete the Quest ‘Change of Arms’

  1. Pre-requisites:
    • Complete the quest ‘A Sign of What’s to Come’
    • Complete the quest ‘Fit for a Queen’
    • Complete the quest ‘In the Queen’s Image’
  2. NPC Location:
    • Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)

Change of Arms will necessitate the collection of even more Memories.

You are now searching for Loathsome Memories of the Dying, which can be gained through the following methods:

  1. Labyrinth of the Ancients – rewards 1 Memory
  2. Syrcus Tower – rewards 1 Memory
  3. The World of Darkness – rewards 1 Memory
  4. Critical Engagements in the Bozjan Southern Front (chance to obtain 1 Memory)
  5. Castrum Lacus Litore – rewards 5 Memories

If you can regularly perform Castrum Lacus Litore, this will be the fastest way to complete this phase.

Other options include grinding in Labyrinth of the Ancients or Syrcus Tower.

Reward:

  1. Law’s Order Resistance Weapon (iLvl. 510)

Complete the Quest ‘The Resistance Remembers’

  1. NPC Location:
    • Gerolt – Gangos (x:6.2, y:5)

This is a one-time quest that requires the collection of 36 new Memories.

18 Haunting Memories of the Dying and 18 Vexatious Memories of the Dying are required.

These can be acquired through the following means:

MemoryLocation 1Location 2
Haunting Memory of the DyingFATEs in:The FringesThe PeaksThe LochsHeavensward Raids:The Void ArkThe Weeping City of MhachDun Scaith
Vexatious Memory of the DyingFATEs in:The Ruby SeaYanxiaThe Azim SteppeStormblood Raids:The Royal City of RabanastreThe Ridorana LighthouseThe Orbonne Monastery

The memory of the Dying has a chance to drop from FATEs, whereas it is guaranteed to drop from Raids.

However, the drop rate from FATEs is so high that it is significantly faster to farm them than to complete 36 Heavensward and Stormblood Raids.

We recommend grinding in The Lochs for Haunting Memories and in The Azim Steppe for Vexing Memories.

These sites should typically have numerous FATEs active simultaneously, allowing you to fly between them and fulfill this stage reasonably quickly.

Complete the Quest ‘A New Path of Resistance’

  1. NPC Location:
    • Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)

You must collect a total of 15 Timeworn Artifacts for this quest.

After clearing Delubrum Reginae, or every 10 levels in the Palace of the Dead, you can obtain them.

  1. Delubrum Reginae – 3 Timeworn Artifacts rewarded at the end of the dungeon
  2. Palace of the Dead – Chance to get 1 Timeworn Artifact each time you clear 10 floors.
  3. The chance to get one will increase as your floor level increases.

You must complete the dungeon five times if you desire to farm Delubrum Reginae for this step.

Although this dungeon can be challenging without the proper Lost Actions or if your group lacks the appropriate jobs, it is considerably more consistent than grinding Palace of the Dead.

Nonetheless, if you are fortunate with your drops in the Palace, that will be the overall speedier alternative.

Reward:

  1. Augmented Law’s Order Resistance Weapon (iLvl. 515)

Complete the Quest ‘What Dreams Are Made Of’

  1. Pre-requisites
    • Complete the quest ‘A New Playing Field’
  2. NPC Location
    • Gerolt – Gangos (x:6.2, y:5)

What Dreams Are Made Of is a story quest that must be completed only once.

Simply speak with the relevant NPCs to complete the task.

Complete the Quest ‘A Done Deal’

  1. NPC Location:
    • Gerolt – Gangos (x:6.2, y:5)

After completing the missions ‘Spare Parts,’ ‘Tell Me a Story,’ and ‘A Fond Memory,’ you will be eligible to accept the quest ‘A Done Deal.’

This is a one-time quest that does not need to be repeated to obtain further Resistance Weapons.

Simply speaking with the involved NPCs will allow you to access the last phase of the Resistance Weapon Questline and finish this quest.

Complete the Quest ‘Irresistible’

  1. NPC Location:
    • Zlatan – Gangos (x:6.1, y:4.9)

This is the final phase in the questline, the completion of which will reward you with a complete Blade Resistance Weapon.

For this mission, you must collect 15 Raw Emotions.

These can be acquired through the following means:

  1. The Dalriada – 3 per clear
  2. Delubrum Reginae – 2 per clear
  3. Any level 70 Stormblood Dungeon – 1 per clear
  4. Heaven-on-high – chance to obtain 1 every 10 floors (higher floors have a higher chance to drop one)

You can accumulate Raw Emotions with any profession and any weapon.

Because there are four distinct paths to completing this quest, it may be difficult to choose which one to take.

Choose the activity for which you will have the least difficulty.

If you build a fast-moving party, level 70 dungeons will likely be the quickest to complete.

Similarly, The Dalriada and Delubrum Reginae are swift with a swift party, although they are on average longer.

Keep in mind that the previous part of the Resistance Weapon quest needs you to collect Timeworn Artifacts from Delubrum Reginae, thus you can work on two weapons simultaneously by completing this dungeon.

If Heaven-on-high is not enjoyable, you should avoid it.

In the end, it is the slowest approach to complete this phase, and it relies on RNG to drop Raw Emotions.

After collecting 15 Raw Emotions, return to Zlatan to complete your weapon.

Reward:

  1. Blade’s Resistance Weapon (iLvl. 535)
